What Are Xeomin and Dysport?

Portrait of young beautiful woman with perfect smooth skin

While we’re all familiar with Botox—it’s a household name—most people are unfamiliar with two other injectable wrinkle treatments: Xeomin and Dysport. If you’ve been wondering about these two cosmetic products, it’s time to learn more.

Xeomin

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved organic injectable neuromodulator product. Its primary use is smoothing away vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines. Xeomin can also be used to address crow’s feet around the eyes, horizontal forehead wrinkles, chin wrinkles, lipstick lines, and vertical neck bands.

Xeomin’s manufacturer, Merz Aesthetics, also manufactures a number of popular skin treatments. These include the injectable dermal fillers Radiesse and Belotero, the Ultherapy treatment device, and Neocutis medical-grade skincare products. When making Xeomin, Merz utilizes XTRACT Technology™ to remove unnecessary proteins from the product, making it the only organic neuromodulator on the market.

Patients see results starting three to four days after their treatment session. Typically, results last around three months from the injection date.

Dysport

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is another injectable anti-wrinkle option. This FDA-approved neurotoxin is frequently used to treat glabellar lines and can also smooth away chin wrinkles, horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet, and lipstick lines.

Dysport is made by Galderma, the company behind dermal fillers Restylane and Sculptra, along with a variety of topical skincare products. It is formulated with botulinum toxin type A and has supporting agents like human albumin and milk protein. Because of this, patients who are allergic to cow’s milk protein must choose a different neuromodulator option.

Typically, Dysport’s results can be seen in two to three days following treatment. Results can last up to three months.

The Xeomin and Dysport Injection Process

Xeomin and Dysport treatment sessions are quite quick and convenient, taking 20 minutes at the latest. At the start of the procedure, the face is cleansed to remove any makeup or skin products. Next, the injection sites are marked to serve as a guide for the injector.

Ice may be applied to the treatment areas in order to provide a numbing effect, helping to avoid pain or discomfort. Finally, Xeomin or Dysport is precisely injected through the skin and into the targeted muscles.

Aftercare Following Xeomin and Dysport Treatments

Once you have received Xeomin or Dysport injections, you will be able to return to your daily schedule. No downtime or recovery time is required after treatment.

You may notice a minor degree of redness, bruising, or swelling in the sites where the injections were delivered. This is perfectly normal. These issues will fade shortly, and an ice pack can aid in this process. Patients are instructed to avoid strenuous exercise and sun exposure for 48 hours after treatment in order to avoid exacerbating swelling.

Once your Xeomin or Dysport results begin to naturally fade, you can return to Refresh Palm Beach Medical Aesthetics for your personalized treatments.
